GRAND FORKS, North Dakota - The Thunderbirds fell to the University of North Dakota (16-25, 17-25, 17-25) to open Big Sky play.
“We are still learning how to compete,” SUU head coach Craig Choate said about his team's effort.

The T-Birds fell the the Fighting Hawks Thursday night, as UND was able to out score SUU by 25 points throughout the three sets.
SUU opposite hitter Chennin Benson led the Thunderbirds in kills with ten, followed by Ann Clappier who had eight kills and a .263 hitting percentage. Sophomore Rylee Rogers led the team in assists with 15, and freshman Alexis Averett tacked on 13.
UND controlled the match with a .341 hitting percentage. Junior Tamara Merseli led the Fighting Hawks with ten kills and a .321 hitting percentage.
The T-Birds will return to Cedar City for their home season opener against Northern Arizona on Saturday.
