OGDEN, Utah - Southern Utah freshman Tre James has been named men’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week by the Big Sky Conference following a record breaking performance in his first collegiate meet.
James ran in the Friday Night Duels last week where he posted 6.70 (6.74 after altitude adjustment) in the 60-meter dash. This was not only a new school record for SUU, but it also moved him into a tie for the second fastest time in Big Sky history.
The current Big Sky record holder is Cal State Northridge’s Marcus Bivines, who ran a 6.68 in 1999.
“I was kind of shocked about it because I’m just a freshman and I wasn’t expecting that,” James said about his performance. “It’s been cold here so we really haven’t been able to do speed training, but to come up with that time is amazing.”
James also placed second in the 200-meter with a time of 21.65.
