MOSCOW, Idaho - After winning two of their last three games, the Southern Utah women’s basketball team traveled to Moscow Idaho Friday night to take on the Idaho Vandals in the final game of the 2016-17 regular season.
The Thunderbirds opened up the first quarter with an 8-0 run to put them up 10-3 halfway through the quarter. Coming out of the first media timeout, the Vandals turned the tables on the T-Birds, taking the lead on an 8-0 run of their own and finishing the quarter with a 16-12 lead.
Down by four, the Thunderbirds were able to fight back to within one in the second quarter and within three in the third quarter, but were never able to retake the lead from the Vandals. They found themselves down by as much as 18 in the fourth quarter and were able to cut that to 15 before the game came to a close with a score of 76-61.
Jessica Richardson led the Thunderbirds offensively with 17 points on the night. Darri Frandsen fell short of her twelfth double-double of the season, finishing with nine points and six rebounds.
This is the second time the Vandals have beaten the Thunderbirds this season. Back in January the Vandals came into Cedar City and beat the T-Birds 85-68.
The Lady T-Birds will begin play in the Big Sky Conference championship tournament Monday in Reno, Nevada. They will enter the tournament as the 12th seed and will play the fifth seeded Vandals in the first round of the tournament.
