GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The Southern Utah softball team wrapped up the 2017 regular season Saturday afternoon with a 6-0 loss to the North Dakota Fighting Hawks.

Just two rough innings became the Thunderbirds' downfall as the Fighting Hawks did all of their scoring in the first and fifth innings. UND started the game scoring three runs in just three at-bats, highlighted by Kaylin VanDomelen's two-run home run to make it 3-0. They would add three more in the fifth on four hits including two doubles.

The Thunderbirds weren't without their chances in game three. They had at least one hit in every inning except for the first and had a chance to score in the second when Megan Reed was thrown out at the plate trying to score from second base on Samantha Guerra's single to center field. As a team they had eight hits and worked two walks.

Freshman Samantha Guile started in the circle for the Thunderbirds and worked 4.1 innings, giving up eight hits and five runs in the loss. Junior Haley Wall relieved Guile with one out in the fifth inning and worked the final 1.2 innings, allowing just four hits and one run.

Reed, Guerra, and Sarah Murphy had two hits each on Saturday, accounting for six of the eight Thunderbird hits. Reed finishes the series six for nine(.667) at the plate with two walks and one run scored. Sophomore Nicole Simonson went one for four to extend her hitting streak to fourteen games.

The Thunderbirds will head to Ogden, Utah next weekend for the Big Sky Championship Tournament. The tournament will be hosted by Weber State as they beat Montana 6-5 on Saturday to claim the regular season crown.
