CEDAR CITY, Utah - Southern Utah University gymnastics improved its season-best score for the fourth consecutive week as the Thunderbirds posted a 195.450-195.250 win over the No. 16 Boise State Broncos on Friday night. The victory also included titles for T-Birds on all four individual events.

SUU was dealt a blow during warm-ups as Rochelle Bernier suffered an injury that kept her out of the meet. The junior from Edmonton, Alberta had been slated to compete in three of the four events.

"I'm so proud of our girls tonight and how they came out and competed," head coach Scott Bauman said. "Our underclassmen did a great job of filling our lineups after we had to pull Rocky (Bernier). We still haven't reached our potential this season and I see us continuing getting better and better as the year goes on."

The Thunderbirds opened on vault and went with a lineup of only five gymnasts, but the quintet came up big, scoring Southern Utah's highest team score of the night with a 48.900. Freshman Memory Shettles led the way with a career-best 9.875, taking the individual title, and was followed by Jamie Armijo with a season-best 9.825. Freshmen Danielle Ramirez and Virginia Brownsell scored matching 9.750's and Brittney Jensen rounded out the team score with a 9.700.

Boise State began the evening on bars, building more than a three-tenths lead with a 49.250 on the event with Kelsey Black and Diana Mejia on top for the Broncos with 9.900's.

Senior Alyssa Click tied the mark with her own 9.900 routine as individual titles continued to accumulate for the T-Birds. Her score was part of Southern Utah's season-best 48.875 on the event as Armijo and Ramirez followed with two 9.800's. Armijo's score was her fourth consecutive routine on bars that scored a 9.800 this season and Ramirez returned to the event after a two-week hiatus. Freshmen Tyly Bozzuto and Sydney Townsend wrapped up Southern Utah's total with a 9.725 and 9.650, respectively.

Boise State's lead grew following the second rotation as the Broncos scored a 48.975 on vault, extending the margin to just under five-tenths, 98.225 to SUU's 97.775.

Southern Utah made up the difference and more during the third rotation as the Thunderbirds tallied another season-best 48.850 on beam while Boise had its struggles on floor, scoring a 48.300. SUU started strong on the event as Natalie Trejo shook off a pair of falls on beam over the past two weeks to score a season-best 9.800. Freshmen Stacie Webb and Townsend followed with a 9.775 and 9.650, respectively.

Shettles then took to the beam and continued her solid form with a career-best 9.850 to take her second individual title during the competition. The lineup primed Click for high numbers, but a rare fall during her routine put pressure on Bozzuto as the final competitor. The first-year gymnast delivered with a 9.775, narrowly missing her career best of a 9.800.

BSU's 48.300 came by way of a fall and  three neutral deductions as a trio of gymnasts stepped out. The shift put the Thunderbirds up one-tenth, 146.625-146.525.

Southern Utah's floor team punctuated the victory with a 48.825 on the event, led by Trejo's 9.850 that gave the sophomore the individual title. Ana Jaworski finished second for the T-Birds with a 9.800 and was followed by Shettles and Carly Sigler with a pair of 9.750's. Bozzuto recorded the final mark that counted towards the team score with a 9.675.

Boise State finished the night on beam with a 48.725, giving Southern Utah the 195.450-195.250 victory. BSU's Kelsey Morris earned the all-around title with a 38.400 as the only gymnast on the night competing on all four events.

Southern Utah will return to action next weekend, traveling to the University of Denver on Saturday night for a tri-meet with Denver and North Carolina State.
