CEDAR CITY, Utah - Sept. 15 - Southern Utah's Cameron Levins returned to school this semester a little more decorated than in years past as the junior earned two gold medals at the Canadian Junior Nationls just prior to the first week of school.  Levins finished first in both the men's 1,500-meters and 5,000-meters, competing against some of the best that Canada had to offer.

The meet, pitting the best athletes in Canada ages 16-23 is held every four years and features athletes that had even competed in the Olympic Trials.  Levins did not enter as the favorite in either race, but raced to a first-place time of 14:23 in the men's 5,000-meters the first Monday of the competition.

Later in the week, Levins qualified for the finals of the men's 1,500-meters, competing in the finals on the following Friday.  The race started slowly, but it was Levins that pulled away in the end, crossing the finish line with a time of 3:49 to claim his second gold medal of the competition.

"The meet was late in the season and I knew it would feature some good competition," Levins said of the experience.  "I really just wanted to see where I was in my training, but I was very pleased with my placing and times."

The 2009 cross country season has already begun for the Thunderbirds as Levins finished second, just behind teammate Kevin Sandall at the Idaho State Invitational last weekend.  The team will be back in action this coming weekend when Southern Utah competes at the UC Riverside Invitational.
