CEDAR CITY, Utah, Nov. 14 - Southern Utah University has signed South Sevier High School's Race Parsons to a National Letter of Intent for basketball, SUU Coach Nick Robinson announced today.

"For Race, and his family, to join the Thunderbird program at this time is very exciting," Robinson said. "He's one of the top high school players in the state, a proven winner, and has a knack for scoring the basketball."

Parsons, a 6-4 senior shooting guard from Monroe, Utah, is a two-time Utah 2A MVP who has led the Rams to back-to-back state championships. Last year as a junior he averaged 24.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game for Coach Scott Hunt. Parsons father, Rhet, was a two-year letter-winner at SUU and his sister, Jadie, played at SUU as well.

"I really liked the direction and vision Coach Nick has for the program," Parsons said. "I've been around SUU and Cedar City all my life, it's like a second home to me, I know the campus, so it just felt like a good fit. I've had a chance to get to know the players and the coaches and I'm excited to play at Southern Utah."

"We're very excited Race decided on SUU," Ram Coach Scott Hunt said. "He got a lot of attention from other schools, and I know he thought about it carefully before he made the decision. He's a good player but he might be a better kid than player too. He's a great student and he's got a great work ethic, it's a can't-miss situation for everyone."
