OGDEN, Utah - Southern Utah University women's volleyball had a 2-0 advantage over Weber State and had a total of six match points over the final three sets, but were unable to come away with the win on the road, dropping the match in five sets. The loss drops the T-Birds to 2-20 on the year and 1-11 in the Big Sky, while Weber State moves to 6-20 overall and 2-10 in conference.

The Thunderbirds breezed to 25-16, 25-22 victories in the first two sets, hitting .368 with 27 kills on 57 attempts and only six errors. Southern Utah carried the momentum into the third set, leading throughout most of the frame until the Wildcats came back to tie it at 21-21 and then take the lead 23-21 as part of a three-point run. SUU fought off a Weber set points at 24-23, 25-24, 26-25 and 27-26 and then captured their own match point at 28-27. However, WSU came back to close out the set, 30-28, with three consecutive points.

Southern Utah fought off two more Weber State set points in the fourth set at 24-22 and 24-23 behind a pair of kills by Kylie Schofield. The senior then gave the Thunderbirds match point at 25-24 on a third consecutive kill. The Wildcats weathered the storm and then used a three-point run to erase a second match point for SUU at 26-25 to take a 28-26 victory and tie the match at 2-2.

Weber State was all but out of the match in the fifth set, hitting -.088 with 12 errors on 34 swings and nine kills. However, nine Southern Utah errors kept the Wildcats in the match and ultimately led to the home side taking the 19-17 victory in the fifth. The Thunderbirds had their chances to close out the contest with match points at 15-14, 16-15 and 17-16, but Weber State fought back on each occasion to seal the victory.

Schofield finished the night with a match-high 17 kills, equalling Weber State's Audrey Biggs output of 17 kills. Schofield was joined in double dights by Ann Clappier (11 kills), Taylor Heine (10 kills) and Alissa Youart (10), marking the first time this season that four Thunderbirds had logged double-digit kill numbers in the same match. Lusia Angilau was one shy of a double-digit night, logging nine kills and was second to Heine in hitting efficiency, notching a .421 (9-1-19) hitting percentage to Heine's .533 (10-2-15). Youart tallied her third double-double of the season with 10 digs, finishing second to Sariah Pelaez' 20-dig performance. Pelaez also led the T-Birds behind the service line with three service aces.

Southern Utah will wrap up its three-match road trip on Monday night when the Thunderbirds face Utah Valley University in Orem. The contest is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. with live stats available online at www.suutbirds.com.
