Women’s Golf Sits In Sixth After First Day At Bobcat Desert Invitational

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The Thunderbird women’s golf team opened at the Bobcat Desert Invitational on Monday, and after two rounds of play they sit in sixth place.

The event is being hosted by Montana State, and is being played at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Arizona.

As a team the Thunderbirds shot 303 in the first round and 315 in the second to bring their Monday total to 618.

Poy Prasurtwong and Miranda Reyes led the way for the Thunderbirds, as they both finished in a tie for 20th on the leaderboard. Both of them shot 74 in the first round and 78 in the second, which put their total at an eight-over 152.

Taylor Viquelia finished the day in a tie for 29th on the leaderboard, shooting a 154 (76, 78) on Monday. Nicole Jones finished fourth for SUU, and in a tie for 43rd overall, after shooting a 160 (79, 81) on Monday.

Kyla Smith was fifth for the T-Birds and in a tie for 52nd at the end of the day on Monday, shooting a combined 162 (79, 83).

Cal Poly leads the tournament heading into play on Tuesday, as they sit with a 581 (291, 290) team score. Cal Poly also has the top two players on the leaderboard heading into the second day, with Sophia Bergland and Desiree Gillaspy sitting first and second respectively.  

The final round will be played on Tuesday with a shotgun start scheduled for 7:45 a.m.
