OGDEN, Utah - Two members of the Thunderbird women’s golf team were honored on Monday by the Big Sky Conference for their play throughout the season.
SUU freshman Kamonwan (Poy) Prasurtwong earned the title of Freshman of the Year from the conference. She was also named All-Big Sky First Team for her play leading up to the upcoming Big Sky Tournament. Prasurtwong was also named Women’s Golfer of the Week three times during the season.
“We're very proud of the season she’s had and for the conference to recognize her performances with the award is great,” SUU head coach Richard Church said. “She’s had a really solid season and we look forward to seeing what she’s able to do in the future.”
This marks the first time the Thunderbird women’s golf program has earned a Freshman of the Year award since joining the Big Sky Conference.
Thunderbird senior Taylor Viquelia earned All-Big Sky Second Team honors, as the senior leader for the Thunderbirds has helped pace them in nearly every event this season. Viquelia earned Women’s Golfer of the Week honors once during the 2016-17 campaign.
Last season Viquelia was awarded with the title of Big Sky Player of the Year, and this season that award went to Northern Arizona’s Sofia Anokhina. Viquelia was a member of the Big Sky Second Team as a freshman and an Honorable Mention as a sophomore.
“We’re pleased she was named to the second team,” Church said. “To be honored as consistently as she has been is a great honor for her.”
This week the Thunderbirds will head to Boulder City, Nevada, to compete for the 2017 Big Sky Conference Championship. That event is scheduled to begin on Friday, April 21st.
