CHANDLER, Ariz. - The first day of the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Chandler, Arizona, wrapped up on Monday with two rounds in the books and the Thunderbirds sitting in 13th place.
Freshman Ali Hameed was a highlight for the Thunderbirds, finishing the day at even par. He shot a two-over 74 in the first round, but bounced back with a two-under 70 to finish the day even and in a tie for 23rd on the leaderboard.
Fidel Concepcion and Jake Vincent ended the day in a tie for 33rd on the leaderboard, as they both shot a two-over 146 on Monday. Concepcion shot a 73 in both rounds and Vincent with 74 in the first and followed it up with a 72 in the second.
Christian Karren was fourth for the Thunderbirds and finished in a tie for 90th on the overall leaderboard after shooting a combined 156.
Bradley Collet was fifth for Southern Utah after shooting an 81 in both rounds of competition.
As a team the Thunderbirds shot a 300 in the first round and a 292 in the second to bring their two-round total to 592.
After two rounds Long Beach State leads the event, shooting a combined 567 (288, 279).
Sacramento State’s Aaron Beverly and Long Beach State’s Joe Fryer are tied at the top of the leaderboard after both shooting seven-under on Monday.
Play will conclude on Tuesday with a shotgun start scheduled for 7:30 a.m.
