OGDEN, Utah - The Big Sky Conference announced the members of the Spring 2017 Big Sky All-Academic Team Wednesday morning and 62 Thunderbirds earned a spot on the list for their performance in the classroom. The total number includes five athletes from the men's and women's golf teams, nine from the softball team, 10 from the men's and women's tennis programs, and 38 men's and women's track and field athletes. The number of athletes being recognized is up 27 percent from last spring's 49 honorees.
"We are very proud of all 62 Thunderbirds being honored by the conference today," interim director of athletics Debbie Corum said. "Their achievements in the classroom are a testament to the dedication that we as a department have when it comes to the success of our student-athletes."
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have participated in at least half of the team's competitions, achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the conclusion of the most recently completed term, and completed at least one academic term at SUU.
