Thunderbirds Prepare for Portland State

CEDAR CITY, Utah -- The Southern Utah University women’s tennis team plays the Portland State Vikings on Saturday, April 1 at 11 a.m. in Hurricane, Utah.
State of the Thunderbirds
The Thunderbirds took home their second win of the season on Wednesday, March 29, against the Eastern Washington Eagles 4-3.
The T-Birds earned the doubles point over the Eagles with two wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. SUU secured the match with three points in the singles competition from senior Evgenia Marushko, junior Mikala Lowrance, and sophomore Charity Sagiao.
After Wednesday’s match, Marushko improved her individual record to 8-8 with a win in the No. 1 position, and Sagiao improved to 4-3 in the No. 4 spot.
Scouting the Opponents
The Portland State Vikings are heading into Saturday’s match with similar momentum as the Thunderbirds, having just won their first match of the 2017 season on March 26 against the Montana Grizzlies 4-3. The Vikings’ overall record stands at 1-10.
The Vikings are lead by Sally Partington with an individual record of 4-7, and a record of 4-5 in the No. 4 position, as well as Taylor Rees, who has an individual record of 5-5.
Saturday’s match has been rescheduled from its original time and location due to weather. The Thunderbirds will now play the Vikings on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hurricane High School in Hurricane, Utah.
