Thunderbirds Play Weber State at Home

CEDAR CITY, Utah -- The Southern Utah University women’s tennis team fell to Weber State 2-5 at home today in a Big Sky Conference matchup.

The Thunderbirds won the first point of the match over the Weber State Wildcats with two wins in the doubles competition. In the No. 2 position, juniors Laura Martin Lozano and Teresa de Enrique Schmidt topped Wildcats’ Dominique Beauvais and Sara Parker 6-1. Thunderbirds’ freshman Cloe Stocking and sophomore Charity Sagiao topped Devi Hasan and Morgan Dickason 6-3 in the No. 3 position to take the point.

In the singles competition, the Thunderbirds were only able to win one match. Senior Evgenia Marushko defeated Wildcats’ Tereza Pilzova 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 1 position, improving her individual record to 11-9.

“We fought really hard in doubles,” SUU head coach Rose Ketmayura said. “Singles was up and down.”

The Thunderbirds play again tomorrow, Saturday, April 22, at 10 a.m. against Idaho State. Tomorrow will be the Thunderbirds’ final home match of the season.
