RENO, Nev. - Just one day removed from the beginning of the Big Sky Conference women’s basketball championship tournament, the Big Sky has released the All-Conference teams and honorees for the 2016-17 women’s basketball season.
Senior Jessica Richardson and sophomore Darri Frandsen both earned All-Conference honors with their stellar play in the 2016-17 season. Richardson was named an All-Conference Honorable Mention in her senior campaign. She finished the season 18th in scoring, 10th in rebounding, and 14th in free throw percentage in the Big Sky. She set new career-highs in points (25) and rebounds (14) in her final season as a Thunderbird. Richardson was also named Big Sky Player of the Week back in December for her performances against UC Irvine and Cal State Northridge.
Frandsen was a consistent force off of the bench for the Thunderbirds in her sophomore season and earned the title of Top Reserve for her play. Despite only starting in 12 of 29 games this season, she finished third on the team in minutes played and led the Thunderbirds in many categories. Frandsen was the leading scorer (12.8 PPG), rebounder (8.1 RPG), and blocker (37) for the Thunderbirds. She also had 11 double-doubles off the bench for the Lady T-Birds.
Frandsen was also at the top of the Big Sky leaderboards in many categories. She finished first in offensive rebounds, third in total rebounds, sixth in blocked shots, eighth in field goal percentage, and 17th in scoring in the conference.
Having wrapped up their regular season on Friday, the Lady T-Birds will compete in the first round of the Big Sky tournament Monday afternoon. They will take on the fifth-seeded Idaho Vandals at 3:30 p.m. Mountain time. Fans can watch the game on watchbigsky.com or follow the live stats at suutbirds.com.
