Women’s Basketball Signs Natalie Sanchez

CEDAR CITY, Utah - The 2017 offseason is off to a great start for the Southern Utah women’s basketball team, as they have announced the signing of El Paso, Texas, native Natalie Sanchez.
“We are excited about the signing of Natalie Sanchez,” head coach Chris Boettcher said. “One of the areas we as a team have struggled with over the past couple of years is consistent three-point shooting and we hope Natalie will help us change that. It’s great to have another El Paso kid and we are excited about the energy and the passion she plays the game with.”
Sanchez comes to Southern Utah after playing four years at the varsity level for Burges High School in El Paso. During her time at Burges, Sanchez played in 123 games and averaged 14.4 points, 3.4 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.5 blocks per game. She was named Newcomer of the Year after her freshman season and was named to the 1-5A First Team All-District in her sophomore and junior seasons.
Her junior season was where the accolades really started to roll in as she was named to the First Team All-City, TABC All-Region, TGCA All-State, TGCA All-Star teams. After her senior season Sanchez was named the 1-5A All-District MVP and the El Paso Greater Coaches Association MVP. She was also named to the TABC All-Region, TGCA All-State, TGCA All-Star teams for the second consecutive year and the TABC All-State team for the first time. Sanchez also earned the honor of being a McDonald’s All-American nominee.
Sanchez has also been named to various All-Tournament teams throughout her career including the Alamogordo VFW Holiday team, the McDonald’s Classic team, the San Antonio Invitational team, and the Loretto Tournament team.
Sanchez is the cousin of current Thunderbird Rebecca Cardenas.
