LAS VEGAS, Nevada- The Thunderbirds continued the Rebel Kickoff Saturday, battling Arkansas to a 10-2 loss and falling to Baylor 5-2.
At the plate today Southern Utah spread out the offense with six different T-Birds picking up hits. Freshman infielder Emily Gonzalez was able to collect a hit in each game today going 2-4 and scoring a run. Redshirt senior infielder Josey White picked up two RBIs today and sophomore utility player Amyah Boostedt also drove in a run.
The T-Birds have played some outstanding competition so far this weekend and look to be improving with each successive game.
SUU VS. ARKANSAS
Entering the game the University of Arkansas had not been challenged this season earning shutout wins in each of its first three contests. The SEC powerhouse had ended each of the first three games of the season in mercy rule fashion not going past the 5th inning.
The nationally ranked Razorbacks started the game quickly picking up a single run in the first inning but the Thunderbirds answered just as fast. In the bottom of the second, Southern Utah strung together a couple of hits to score two runs and take the lead.
Arkansas would answer back in the top of the fourth inning with a three-run home run. The Hogs never looked back, adding three more runs in the top of the fifth, one in the sixth, and two in the seventh.
Redshirt senior pitcher Payton Goodrich took the loss for the Thunderbirds throwing four innings and striking out four batters in her impressive effort.
SUU VS. BAYLOR
The Bears got the scoring started early in game two when they plated a run in the bottom of the second inning. The Thunderbirds bounced back in the top half of the third with a pair of runs that made the score 2-1. The runs came on a hard double down the left-field line by White.
Baylor would answer in the bottom of the third. The two runs came as a result of a pair of walks and a hit up the middle. The Bears would add another run in the bottom of the fifth but the damage was already done as they held the T-Birds scoreless from the fourth inning on.
The Thunderbirds used two pitchers in the game. Sophomore Keimon Winston pitched four innings giving up only one run.
