PROVO, Utah – The Thunderbirds broke from Big Sky play to take on the Brigham Young Cougars in LaVell Edwards Stadium on Saturday as SUU suffered a 37-7 loss.

“There were too many mistakes in the first half. We gave them too many opportunities and the game got away from us early,” head coach Demario Warren said. “We made some big mistakes mentally. I didn't think the moment was going to be too big, but it turned out to be.”

Patrick Tyler threw 19-32 for a gain of 144 yards and a single touchdown. Defensively, Kyle Hannemann led the game with 12 tackles, 11 solo.

Tate Lewis punted eight times for 371 yards, averaging 46.4 yards per punt with a long of 59.

BYU scored on its first drive of the game as Taysom Hill ran in a 16-yard touchdown and put up a quick 7-0 lead before Hill connected with Nick Kurtz on a 31-yard pass with 1:27 to play in the first quarter to extend its lead to 14-0.

The Cougars posted a 28-yard field goal followed by a 21-yard passing touchdown in the second quarter before SUU clenched a touchdown with 2:02 to play in the first half as Patrick Tyler found Logan Parker on a 17-yard pass.

With a quick answer, BYU's KJ Hall punched in a 2-yard run to ender the final quarter with a 31-7 lead. The Cougars knocked in a pair of field goals in the final quarter to conclude the scoring for a 37-7 victory.

The Thunderbirds are back in action for their last Big Sky game as they travel to Northern Arizona to take on the Lumberjacks on Saturday, Nov. 19.
